Finlay Pringle is showing us how to fall into Kindness!
Born in 2007, in Ullapool, Scotland Finlay started campaigning for the environment and the ocean at age 10. He is passionate about the conservation of sharks and is Scotland’s junior shark ambassador. He vehemently opposes the cruel practice of shark finning for the making of shark fin soup, as well as the captivity of sharks in aquariums.
He was inspired to start campaigning at the age of 10 because he was experiencing and witnessing the impacts of plastic pollution, and climate change on marine life while snorkelling close to his home in Scotland. As a shark ambassador, he speaks out and educates people on the misunderstood nature of sharks, as well as the incredibly cruel practice of shark finning. In 2018, he called out celebrity adventurer Bear Grylls for making money off the captivity of sharks at his adventure park in Birmingham. Fin continues to campaign to make shark fin soup illegal in the UK and to have shark finning banned.
Fin joined Greta Thunberg’s movement Fridays for Future and has been staging climate strikes every Friday since Dec 24th, 2018. He is the longest-running climate striker in the UK, and in an interview marking his 150th week of striking, he said he didn’t think it was anything to celebrate as no concrete action has been taken by the government to address the climate crisis. Finlay continues to be outspoken about the UK Prime Minister and his inaction on climate change issues. Many people would have stopped by now, but what drives him is the impact that the climate crisis will have on the future, as well as what he believes is “just the right thing to do.”
We acknowledge Finlay for campaigning, educating, advocating for the conservation of wildlife and the planet, and speaking out about injustice when he sees it.
