Jealousy is one of the most uncomfortable emotions that we experience that we wish we didn’t. The term “jealousy” is a term used to describe a feeling associated with being insecure about a potential loss or unequal distribution of resources.

This term is also used to describe possessive feelings in relation to a partner or friend. It makes us think thoughts like: “Why do they always get whatever they want?”, or “Why were they chosen over me?” or “Why does everyone think they are so hot? They aren’t anything special.” These thoughts form in the mind in response to an observation, creating feelings that then influence your perspective on yourself and the world around us. It is important to remember that although your emotions feel real, your feelings and our ensuing perspective are not facts. Unless you can sort through what is happening inside of you, it will be hard to distinguish the truth of what is happening around you.

TIPS TO LET GO OF JEALOUSY:

  • IDENTIFY YOUR THOUGHTS OF COMPARISON: First ask yourself: “What or who am I comparing myself to?”
  • STOP, PAUSE, and BACKUP: This statement will work like cutting a cord. You are literally cutting the connection from the part of your brain that creates jealous thoughts so that a different part of your brain can rationalize through the situation.
  • BREATHE AND AFFIRM: Learn to embrace the emotion and give up control. The thoughts that trigger the emotion of jealousy are provoked by the interpretation of the situation that is happening.
  • TELL JEALOUSY TO GET LOST! Self-talk is very powerful so use it to your benefit by using positive and confident thoughts.
