I was speaking to my business partner and we were talking in January how hard it was to feel motivated to set goals for the new year. She told me something profound that I will always remember. She said that spring is the natural new year. During the fall and winter months, plants die off, leaves fall from the trees and animals find places to burrow in for the season. The cold months are meant for rest, reset and recuperation.
With the changing of the seasons and the transition from winter to spring, temperatures become more moderate, plants bloom again, animals come out of hibernation and have their offspring. Nature starts anew. People’s moods are elevated to be naturally more positive as excitement brews for the endless possibilities of outdoor activities.
Perhaps the anticipation and zest for your 2021 resolutions have fizzled out; or, you haven’t made the strides you had hoped for since January. Do not lose hope. Spring brings with it the freshness and energy of renewal. Anything is possible! The eagerness to be in nature, to surround yourself with good things and the sparks of creative inspiration will return. Be gentle with yourself – transitions are never easy, but they always bring something unexpected and new.
Happy New Year!
