DID YOU KNOW THAT HELPING OTHERS CAN HELP YOU LIVE LONGER?
Do you want to live longer?
If you act good, do good, and say good, you just may be extending your lifeline. Visiting the ill, feeding the poor, and chairing the committee no one else wants to be on are all ethically laudable, but being selfless and helpful may reap benefits for your own health and longevity. Helping others helps us to increase social contact and reduce loneliness. This helps to reduce dementia risk. A recent research found out that helping others on a regular basis can reduce mortality rates by 22% compared to those who don’t do so.
One of the ways that people build, maintain, and deepen their social ties is to help others. Volunteering and assisting others, for example, may give us a feeling of belonging, help us make new friends, and connect with our communities. Even celebrities like Taylor Swift and Scarlett Johansson say that helping others gives their life more purpose than just singing and performing. Both have been seen assisting evacuees escaping natural catastrophes and assisting in the funding of kid protection initiatives.
