ACCEPTANCE
“The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.” – Nathaniel Branden
What does acceptance mean?
The definition of ACCEPTANCE is the act of accepting something or someone. The definition of ACCEPTING is to demonstrate approval of a person or the reality of a situation and recognizing the condition without attempting to change it or disapprove.
Acceptance is not always easy and as we begin Day 4 of our KINDolutions challenge, acceptance will play a BIG PART in how you participate.
Being accepting allows you to deal with people, places and things without judgement or frustration. When you can accept someone for their great as well as their not-so-great characteristics, you will be able to interact with them in a kind and generous way. When you accept a difficult situation you give yourself the opportunity to not be miserable and instead deal with the matter in front of you with more mental clarity and confidence. Most of the time, the only thing that gets in the way between you and the people you care about is your wish that they were different in some way, and wanting them to be the way you believe they should be. Often when you do this, the other person can sense it, and it makes them feel uncomfortable around you. There is a saying: ‘Before you judge someone, first walk a mile in their shoes.’ What that means is, it is easy to make a snap judgment of someone at first sight, but once you take the time to get to know them and try to understand what experiences they may have had, you are better able to accept them just as they are. When you practice acceptance with the people in your life it allows you to act with kindness, which helps make your relationships stronger.
At www.idareu2bee.com, we believe acknowledging when we are not accepting of others and situations, we can then be responsible for our actions and our communication and apologize and make things right. When we practice bringing acceptance to the people and situations in our lives it helps us to avoid saying or doing something that may hurt another person’s feelings or make them angry. That kind of responsibility is certainly the perfect tool to use to think and speak in a kind way.
Today we challenge you to do a KINDNESS ASSESSMENT. The assessment is simple and at times you may struggle, yet this is where your MIGHTY COURAGE kicks in. Do not give up, do not give in because building your kindness superpowers will have you win!
Get Ready, Get Set and GROW forward with your GIGANTIC KIND HEART.
KINDNESS ASSESSMENT DAY 4
STEP 1
- Are you willing to acknowledge when you have not been accepting of others and as a result have left others feeling hurt or not included?
If YOU ANSWERED YES, GREAT! Scroll down to STEP 2.
If YOU ANSWERED NO, stay right here and ask yourself this question.
Why are you NOT willing to accept others and yourself, just the way they are?
Think about what might be preventing you from being accepting of yourself and others. This is not easy to do, yet we encourage you to write your answers on a piece of paper or in your journal.
STEP 2
- Write on a piece of paper or in your journal how accepting people and situations just as they are will help create more trust between you and them and you and yourself.
AND
- Write out how accepting others can make you a kinder person.
NOW make today the start of practicing this yourself and others and witness how paying attention to when accept people and circumstances just how they are, it is less stressful and allows you to be more free.
Thank you for participating in the Day 4 2023 KINDolution challenge.
